Connect Earth Joins Tech Zero to Accelerate Progress to Net Zero

Jul 11, 2023 | News

London, UK, July 11, 2023 – Connect Earth has joined Tech Zero, a group of over 300 tech companies uniting to accelerate progress to Net Zero; supporting tech companies to make a climate action plan, and use tech to help their customers live more sustainably.

Tech Zero was founded by innovative British tech firms allplants, Babylon, Bulb, Citymapper, Faculty, GoCardless, Habito, Hopin, Moneysupermarket Group, OLIO, Onfido, Revolut, Starling Bank, Tech Nation, what3words and Wise. We are proud to be a part of a program that acknowledges the role of tech companies in leading the charge towards achieving Net Zero.

At Connect Earth we wholeheartedly acknowledge the impact of our carbon emissions and firmly believe that the pursuit of high levels of decarbonisation can only be accomplished collectively. By joining the taskforce, we have committed to measure all of our emissions and set an ambitious Net Zero target. We also commit to:

  • Annually measure and publish all of our greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Publish more details about how we plan to reach Net Zero, including setting a Net Zero target date, and short-term targets.
  • Appoint a member of the executive team to be responsible and accountable for our Net Zero target.
  • Publicly communicate climate commitments and progress to Net Zero in meaningful ways, including our website, our Board, and our customers.

We recognise the knowledge and tool gap present currently, across sectors, and we seek to empower businesses and individuals to take charge of their progress to a more sustainable lifestyle and operational landscape. Tech Zero is aligned with this mission; serving as a valuable resource, simplifying climate jargon and empowering tech companies of all sizes to develop effective Net Zero plans. At Connect Earth, we share a deep commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability, both within our organisation and among our external stakeholders.

Through this collaboration, we have published our own Net Zero Plan and broader Sustainability Strategy, setting a precedent not only for ourselves, but also for our industry and beyond. With the support of Tech Zero, we are taking meaningful strides towards achieving our ambitious goals of a 30% emissions reduction in all scopes by 2027 and a 50% reduction, across scopes, by 2050. We believe that by leading through action, we can inspire others to make a positive impact on the environment.

Tech Zero is working in partnership with the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero and policy voice of tech startups, Coadec. With support from the government, they will help UK tech companies grow by boosting investment and creating green tech jobs throughout the UK; giving businesses the resources they need to invest in greener choice and encouraging consumers to switch to green technologies.

It’s time we start to realise and harness the power of tech in our national and global journey to Net Zero. To see how we do that at Connect Earth, read more on our carbon reporting tool, Connect Report.
