Environmental data company Connect Earth and KBC Bank Bulgaria (part of KBC Group) have teamed up to offer KBC’s customers insights into the carbon footprint of their everyday spending. This long-term partnership follows an initial successful proof of concept hosted in Q2 2022.
Connect Earth’s data-driven API solution enriches financial transactions with carbon footprint estimates and guides digital banking users towards more sustainable habits. KBC’s customers who wish to learn about their environmental impact will be able to do so through KBC’s banking app. Some of the features developed by Connect Earth include transaction-based carbon footprint estimates, advanced CO2 analytics and educational materials.
As the public’s attention to the climate crisis grows, banks are using Connect Earth’s API solution to display carbon footprint estimates of financial transactions for their customers.
During the initial proof of concept earlier this year, Connect Earth provided carbon estimates to over 8 million transactions (~215,000 customers) that generated over 70 million kg of CO2e. With Connect Earth’s solution, KBC’s customers reduced their emissions by 7% on average per transaction within a month.
